Student guide

Welcome to evaluchat! This guide will help you get started with your assignments, understand how the AI coach works, and submit your best work.

Getting started

Logging in

  1. Go to evaluchat.com in your browser.
  2. Click the Sign in button.
  3. Enter the email address your teacher registered with you.
  4. Check your email for a magic link — click it to log in. No password needed.

Your dashboard

After logging in, you'll see your assignments page. This lists every assignment your teacher has created for you. Each card shows:

Starting an assignment

Click Start assignment on any card. This opens the split-screen workspace: a chat panel on the left and a writing canvas on the right.

How the AI coach helps

The AI coach is your writing partner — it's here to help you think, not to write for you. Here's what the coach does:

Remember: The coach is a tool to help you think. The ideas, words, and arguments in your essay should always be your own. Use the coach like you would use a helpful tutor — ask questions, try out ideas, and let it challenge you to do better.

Submitting your work

When you're ready

  1. Make sure you're happy with your essay on the canvas.
  2. Click the Submit button in the chat panel or banner.
  3. A confirmation dialog will appear — review and confirm.
  4. Your work is now submitted. You can view it but cannot make further changes.

Heads up: Once you submit, the document is locked in a read-only state. Make sure you've done your final review before clicking submit. Your teacher will see exactly what you submitted.

Tips for success

Use the coach actively

Don't wait for the coach to ask all the questions. Tell the coach about your ideas, share your draft, and ask for feedback on specific parts of your essay. The more you engage, the more useful the coach becomes.

Write first, polish later

Use the canvas to get your ideas down without worrying about perfection. The coach can help you improve structure and argument after you have a draft to work with.

Work in sessions

The platform tracks your writing sessions to help your teacher see your effort. Taking breaks is fine — come back and pick up where you left off by clicking Continue assignment on your dashboard.

Be honest in your work

The platform tracks writing activity like keystrokes and pasting. A high amount of pasted text compared to typed text may be flagged to your teacher. Always write in your own words and only use the paste function for short quotes with proper attribution.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use the coach to write my essay for me?

No. The coach is designed to guide you, not write for you. It will ask questions, suggest improvements, and help you think more deeply — but it will not generate paragraphs for you to copy.

Can I submit more than once?

No. When you submit, the document is locked. Make sure you're happy with your work before clicking that button.

What happens if I close my browser while working?

Your work is saved as you type. When you come back, click Continue assignment and you'll pick up right where you left off.

Can I see my previous assignments?

Yes. Your dashboard shows submitted assignments with a "Review" button so you can view your completed work.

Can I message my teacher through the platform?

Not yet. If you need help with an assignment, ask your teacher directly. In-app teacher communication is coming soon.

What browser should I use?

evaluchat works best on the latest versions of Chrome, Firefox, Safari, or Edge.
